How a Dietitian can help
Our team of dietitians have the following expertise in paediatric nutrition:
Paediatric feeding issues
Many of our dietitians are trained in the Sequential Oro-motor Sensory (SOS) feeding approach for dietary management of sensory food related issues and child feeding. We offer a range of behavioural and sensory approaches to child feeding issues for children and families. Conditions that may be managed using these approached include failure to thrive, overweight and obesity, feeding issues related to autism spectrum disorders.
Child weight status
Our dietitians work across the spectrum from failure to thrive to childhood obesity, using a whole-of-family approach and collaborating with other health professionals to assist children to achieve and maintain healthy weight.
Nutrition support
When children and adolescents have particular nutritional support needs, Help Yourself is able to assist families to plan, obtain and utilise nutritional supplements to assist in achievement of nutrition requirements.
Childhood specific conditions
With the diverse skill-set of our dietitians, we can assist with a broad range of nutrition-related paediatric conditions, in collaboration with families and specialist dietitians, paediatricians and associated health professionals.
Where to find us
Our Dietitians currently conduct face-to-face consultations with clients at the following locations on the NSW Mid North Coast:
- Macintosh Medical (Forster)
- Intalink Therapy Solutions (Taree)
- Access Health (Wingham)
- Gloucester Medical Centre (Gloucester)
- Ochre Medical Centre (Tea Gardens)
- Tobwabba Aboriginal Medical Service (Forster).
You can make your booking online for most of these locations.
If none of these locations are convenient, you can request a telehealth (video or phone) consultation instead. In this instance, the Dietitian will either phone you or contact you via video link (emailed to you) at the scheduled time for your appointment.
How to make an appointment
You do not need a doctor’s referral to see us, however, there are a number of federally funded programs that may enable you to see one of our Dietitians at no cost to you (for a limited number of consultations). We therefore suggest that you discuss this with your GP prior to making an appointment to see us. Note that if you do not have a valid referral from your GP then fees will apply for your consultation.
If you have been referred by your GP then they should have given you some referral paperwork including our contact details. You will be asked to identify your type of referral when you make an online booking with us..
